Dr. Rachel Sassone was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and raised in Vicksburg, Mississippi. She attended Mississippi State University (MSU) where she studied biological sciences and fine arts, specifically ceramics. While at MSU, she decided to turn her love for animals into a lifelong commitment to their health and happiness.

Following completion of her Bachelor’s Degree in biological sciences, she worked at the Audubon Nature Institute Zoo in New Orleans as a zookeeper and at the Cat Hospital of Metairie as a veterinary assistant. While at the zoo Rachel had the wonderful opportunity to work with many different species of animals in the children’s zoo. Everything from snakes to birds, goats, sheep, lizards, and even a nutria.

She then moved to Baton Rouge to pursue her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine at Louisiana State University. While in vet school at LSU Rachel was involved in a variety of activities and obtained a few certifications along the way. She became certified in veterinary acupuncture through the Chi Institute in Reddick, FL. For 3 years she worked with the Wildlife Hospital of Louisiana through LSU school of veterinary medicine. For two years, she attended and staffed the Veterinary Leadership Experience through the Veterinary Leadership Institute. She has trained in small and large animal slack water rescue and boat operations through Animal Search And Rescue (ASAR) emergency responders group. Most recently she has trained to become a Fear Free Certified Practitioner.

Rachel truly enjoys getting to spend time with her clients and patients throughout the day. With her certifications in Fear Free techniques and Acupuncture Dr. Sassone strives to bring a calming and comfortable atmosphere for each patient leaving them balanced at the end of their appointment.

Rachel and her fiancé Andrew moved to Raleigh from Baton Rouge, Louisiana in June 2018 and are loving it! Andrew is the Executive Chef at A Place at the Table in downtown Raleigh. They enjoy spending their free time together exploring all of the area’s outdoor parks and scenic drives, cooking at home, listening to live music, watching movies, and hanging out with their four-legged friends; four rescue dogs and a tortoise.
